Kids Told To Shout Obscenities In Swearing Lesson
Should I mention ONE of the many reasons we decided to home-school each one of our kids?

Expletives like the f-word and c-word were written on a blackboard before a teacher explained their meaning to 30 seventh graders. S.t Laurence School in Bradford on Avon, Wilts, claims it was part of a sex and relationship education program to "dispel" the myths of swear words. But parents say they were not consulted by head James Colquhoun about the class and say kids were left "deeply upset." One parent said: "This is a total disgrace. Our children go to school to gain an education, not qualifications in swear words. Most kids had no idea what the words meant and were forced to grow up faster than their parents want. Heads should roll for this." Some pupils claim the teacher told them not to tell parents about the lesson. Deputy head Richard Clutterbuck said Friday night: "This lesson should not have focused on the slang terms. I must apologize for any distress caused.... |

Lesson Swearing Obscenities Shout Told Kids
I think that someone should be fired for this outrageous behavior. IF I wanted my children to curse I would tell them the words myself. I am not one who likes to hear a lot of swear words and I will try to stay away from those who use a lot of those words. Having a teacher do it makes it even worse.

To play the devil's advocate here, I'm not sure that teaching kids about swear words is a bad thing. By a certain age, they've probably already heard them and know their meanings. So why is putting them into context a bad thing?
Granted, it shouldn't be that young but it seems like an alright idea to me, just flawed in the approach. As someone who has done some research into this issue, I'd be interested to see how this pans out.

I don't think this should have been down to teachers to include kids in cursing this way, most parents would get slated for it if they deliberately encouraged their children to curse... I don't know what possessed a school to think it was alright for them to do it!

I believe that cursing is a sign of non intelligence. IF all you can do is curse that shows that you are not smart enough to tell someone to go piss up a rope in a way that would cause them to actually think.

Kids Told To Shout Obscenities In Swearing Lesson
I have talked to my boy as early as age 9 about these words. Why because he came home from school with them. Not saying them but asking why they were used. So educating a child in this is not detrimental, but encouraging them to say them is a strange concept to me.
I think the teacher obviously knew he was crossing the line or he would not have encouraged the students to say nothing to their parents. An obvious act of a person who knows they just did something very wrong.
At age 11 I feel most have heard and with good chance that they have used these words at some point. After all they are in most movies that are consider children movies. I think though that should be a parent child talk no for the school board to do. The school system should be teaching not to use slang and curse words but encouraging proper English and expression of emotions and thoughts in a positive manner not a negative one.
