Sorry but I don't agree with this. Is anyone thinking about those future kids? What if the guy wanted 7 kids? The mother would have done the same?

AUSTIN, Texas - A judge has granted a mother's request to have someone harvest sperm from her dead son's body, so she can have the option of carrying out his wish to have children. Nikolas Colton Evans, 21, died Sunday at a hospital after being punched and falling outside an Austin bar March 27. His mother, Marissa Evans, told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper that he wanted to have three sons someday and had even picked out their names: Hunter, Tod and Van. "I want him to live on. I want to keep a piece of him," she told the newspaper. Travis County Probate Judge Guy Herman ruled Monday in an emergency hearing requested by the mother, because of the urgency of collecting the sperm intact. Court documents said the sperm had to be collected within 24 hours of Nikolas Evans being removed from life support unless the body was cooled to no more than 39.2 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius). Herman ordered the county medical examiner's office to continue storing the body at the proper temperature until the sperm could be collected. Other organs and tissues were already going to be harvested from Evans' body, the judge noted, and there would be no other remedy for the mother if time expired.... |

Mother Harvests Sperm of Dead Son, Raises Profound Ethical Questions in Novel Case
Dallas, TX (LifeNews.com) -- A Texas woman, Missy Evans, has harvested her dead son's sperm and hopes to find a surrogate and one day raise her son's child. It's a decision that ethicists say raises troubling questions; one called the potential offspring a "replacement child." Nikolas Colton Evans had talked about how much he wanted to have a child, but the 21-year-old died after he was punched and hit his head on the ground in a fight. Evans isn't concerned about what others might think. She says she is only doing what her son would have wanted. "He would love me so much for doing this," she told the Associated Press. After a doctor told her that nothing more could be done for her son, Missy Evans came up with the idea of harvesting his sperm. She discussed the idea with her ex-husband, her older son and other family members, and said all supported her wish to help a part of Nikolas live on through his future offspring. She said her son once told her he wanted three sons and had already picked out names. She described Nikolas as an "old soul" who was wise beyond his years. "My son wanted to graduate from college. He wanted to have children. And someone took that away from him," she told AP. Evans had to go to court to get permission to harvest his sperm. On Tuesday, a Travis County probate judge granted her wish and ordered that local officials nearly freeze his body so experts could come in and take his sperm to allow a future birth.
The whole thing is too unnatural. Can you imagine trying to explain this to the child as he grows? Why can't people stop playing with nature?

It is UNFAIR for everyone involved, even the dead son. Yes, he wanted to have kids but Hello? He did want them when he was ALIVE, I don't think there is a letter where he states that he wants his sperm removed once he is dead. Please. I think the mother is mentally unstable to be honest and wants to become a MOM through her OWN SON. Sorry, it is insane.
