I was watching a marine put on his backpack today (news on TV) and he had to actually get momentum to kick it up to his knee then his stomach and up on to his back. I thought to myself that it must way a ton. It then reminded me of a cousin of mine who is an x-marine, he said that one of the tests of survival was to drop you out of a copter into a swamp with a 75 lb. pack on your back. He explained you would sinkl to the bottom with the weight and then have to literally crawl back up.
Unfortunately I was never given any adult military training (only youth), but I do know what it is like to carry a heavy pack. Anyway, the point of this thread...
What matters most in your backpack if you are limited to 35 lbs?

Ammunition, ammunition and more ammunition! Water, and food too!

I was not thinking of going to war, I am referring to people that may be going to a remote area, but cannot take much.

Yeah, so, my answer remains the same! In addition, bug repellant, dry socks and under clothing. Change of clothes in case you get wet. Spare boots for the same purpose.

Oh my...I don't think I could handle that *giggles* specially to get all wet! plus, with the time of the month....oh my gosh....a living nightmare.

Why not one of those cell phones that you can use anywhere? I definitely would take one, and a spare battery. A GPS device too. I'd know my exact location and would be able to call for help anytime
A hatchet, iron rations and spare clothes are important too. First-aid kit for sure. What about fire? I'd take a lighter for that. Oh, a small flashlight too. That way I'd be prepared.
What others have already mentioned, plus a sharp knife, twine, a can opener ( ! ), and a compass and a map. Identification papers, or at least copies.
And a place to GO when it's time to bug out.
