Comments: I can understand your comments on chafing, being cold, etc.; and I believe you will find sundry opinions across cultural boundaries - even in an LDS culture. (I know Brazilians that are LDS and see bikinis as perfectly acceptable. I still wouldn't wear one myself, but am certainly not going to judge.)
Here are a few of my thoughts: because speedos only cover a small area of the body, the contrast in color leads my eye there immediately, which is somewhat awkward-especially as a young woman. Womens' bulges are visible in any type of clothing, we're accustomed to seeing those; not so with men. Since one piece women's suits cover more than private areas, it doesn't seem to attract as much visual attention to those places as a speedo might. I am a woman, so it's hard for me to judge objectively.
Also: as much as we'd dislike to admit it, modesty oftentimes involves comparison to the cultural norm. When most men are wearing trunks, a speedo in a crowd stands out, further bringing attention to itself. Maybe it would be more appropriate in South Africa, or Brazil, etc. Location matters. When visiting Jerusalem men wear long pants and women wear skirts and long sleeved shirts without a deep neck. It doesn't mean they find other clothing immodest, they're just in a setting where others do and show respect.
You also have to think of purpose. If you're racing, a speedo makes more sense than it would in a generic public setting, in my opinion. I guess you need to weigh cost and benefit carefully. Are you really that uncomfortable in trunks?

Actually I always thought men did not need to wear a speedo. But thinking better about it I understand your point that women's swimsuit are as "immoral", even the one piece thing. For me, men's or women's swimsuit are similar. That's my opinion, I'm from Brazil

Comments: I appreciate people expressing their opinion for I am learning other points of view.
Wearing trunks while swimming or getting in and out of the water really is uncomfortable to me -- I really do get cold easier and chafe easier. I encourage comparing wearing trunk style suits to speedo or form fitting suits to everyone. I also encourage practical modesty, and I realize the meaning of "practical" can have wide diversity.
I appreciate others listening to my point of view and for our ability (freedom) and willingness to carefully consider our views and the views of others.
Thank you.
I remember the days when modesty was a routine part of life. Now being as nude as you can is the in thing. Speedoes are part of that be as nude as you can without actually showing flesh philosophy. You can try to change it around to make it look like something else, but you just fool yourselves. Put some clothes on folks.

If our society was better, we wouldn't wear swim suits at all. |
Rather off topic, but... And, yes, I agree that Republicans should wear more Speedos. Imagine what the Senate would be like! |
Wait you guys are just joking about this topic right? I mean have you all actually seen how speedos looks on a guy? They remind me so much of those gay pride parades which gives me the shivers. Heck no to speedoes they're just nasty.
