What's the big deal with Obama's Dog or the Obama's wanting to get a Dog that has to be spoken so often by the media? Is it a necessary tradition that each new occupant of the White House has to have a Dog or Cat?

What is the continuing big deal with the Obama's new dog? I mean there is so much more going on in the world: pirates, economic crisis nuclear nations rising, and so forth yet the media is focusing on "Bo". Funny thing is "Bo" is registered as "Amigo's New Friend" and was called by the previous owner "Charlie" - seems like there is an identity crisis.
