Runaway Chainsaw

How does one safely stop a runaway chainsaw that was started and left the handlers hand and is moving vigorously?

First kick your self for not checking the auto brake prior starting it up. Once it drops from your hand it is going to basically idle down and the chain will all but be stopped if it is not completely stopped.

To have a chainsaw whirling on the ground out of control the throttle would have to be stuck wide open. Most machines are design to shut down with out the operator, the chainsaw is not much different.

There is a brake on them as well and if spinning that might catch and stop it as well.

If it was whirling away like made just stay clear it can only run for so long before gas runs out. go for a coffee and come back it might be close then.

Yes stay back and let it run out of gas that is the best thing for it. You can always shoot it if you do not want to wait for it to run out of gas. biggrin.gif Not sure if that would work.

Actually I doubt it also would you not take a good chance on a ricochet? It is metal and moving. If you could hit it I am sure it would stop if you can penetrate the casing.

Not real concerned in an exploding gas tank as that is harder to do them most think.
