Second Life
Philip Rosedale didn't create Second Life to be a game or a toy. He thinks he is remaking the Internet - taking it on a giant leap forward, much like the invention of the Mosaic browser or World Wide Web.

I guess Second Life is just not social enough for some. In another news report it was reported that there was a boost in the sales of social networks because more people are home and lonely because of the financial crisis.
I think if the creator wants Second Life to replace the internet browser, he needs to start by making a much better search engine within his program. Trying to search for locations in that game is rediculously vague and hardly ever returns the results you are looking for.
Another setback is that web browsers require a very small amount of system resources and can handle a wide variety of plugins (ex. Java, flash). Second Life needs to be able to support just as many plugins and would have to be less resource intensive.
It think the long story short is that if you want to replace something, you have to be able to do all of what that thing does, and then do it better, which Second Life has not completely done.
ALOT of adults play Second Life too. There is alot of adult content in there.
I like to pop in to Second Life once in awhile to check out music and fashion. It's amazing to see the kinds of clothes that people can design in the game. If only people would make clothes like that in real life. Perhaps these people that are really good at drawing just never make it into the fashion industry.
As for music, I've found a few virtual clubs that actually have live DJ's playing sets and you can only hear it if you are in that vicinity, so I just log in, park my character there and do other stuff on my computer with the music running in the background.

I enjoy dropping into Second Life once in a while to see how things have changed and updated.
My niece is working on her Master's degree and believe it or not, one of the classes she had required her to spend time in Second Life. She will be starting one soon that requires her to play World of Warcraft. Honest!
I enjoy games that break new ground. I agree with the statement that Second Life is more than just an online game because it gives the freedom for so much more to go on.
Rather off topic, but... Another online game that I thought had a very new idea is called wurmonline. It gives the players total control over everything in the game which extends even to being able to dig a hole over here in order to move the dirt over to ... here... To make a hill. You start with a couple basic tools and absolutely everything else has to be made using those basic tools to work your way up. I thought it was a fascinating way to to things! (by the way, I hope I didn't just hijack a Second Life thread... I didn't mean to if I did!) |

The game was okay. I kind of liked it but got bored of it pretty fast. There wasn't much to do on it and my computer had trouble running it.
