Dog Pet Terrier Wheaten Coated Soft

Wow, I had a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and they are not nearly as fragile and sensitive as this article makes them sound. First off, the amount of grooming required depends on if you are going to try and show the dog. Most of us want a companion dog and have no desire to show the dog. I can honestly say that running a comb through his hair once a week was sufficient to keep the knots out and keep the coat looking good. He needed a hair cut about once every 4 months if you wanted to keep the terrier look. If you let it go, then your wheaten will look like a golden sheepdog with the spirit of a terrier.

Wheaten terriers are of Irish origin. They were the poor man's dog in Ireland.

A Wheaten Terrier is probably one of the happiest dogs you will ever meet. They love kids and can adapt to just about any surrounding (work a farm to a companion dog of the city...no problem). A Wheaten Terrier will never lose its puppy-like exuberance. My dog (40lbs) still thought he was a little 5lb puppy and tried to jump into my arm...that is a surprise if you aren't ready for it! My dog even loved going to the vet for shots because he got to meet people.

When you first get a puppy, they are dark brown (like a mahogany) with black tips and as they age, they become the wheaten color their name implies. They are easy to train, but a bit mischievous at times. They are very eager to please and if you are familiar with training a dog they are a dream to work with.
