I watched the video of the interview. Honestly (and in all fairness even though I don't like her much), she was merely trying to point out how many other presidential campaigns had continued through June, and that she couldn't understand why people were pressing her to drop out of the race. RFK was merely another democratic campaign that continued into June, which was the point she was making.
I don't think it reveals any unconscious desire for Barack to be assassinated. It was simply a reference to support her decision to stay in the presidential race. Poor choice of words? Absolutely. Malicious? I don't think so.

Rather off topic, but... Did you know it's been 27 years of either a Bush or Clinton in the White House? Do we really want 8 more years of Clintons? |

You know, I would tend to agree with you that it was a slip of the tongue or just a momentary lapse of reasoning, but she has now said it 3 times. Once, I can see. Twice and I become skeptical. Three times... The truth is that it is RFK that she has to go back to (along with her husbands first election) to show that a run for the nomination has gone past the end of May. Actually, it is pretty rare that this happens. If there were no superdelegate system, this quite possibly would go to the convention and have to be brokered, but with the superdelegate system this will be avoided. Brokered conventions are very rare in US presidential party politics.

Now I dont think she is trying to wake-up some sleeper cell with her calls of the RFK assassination, but this is a very junior league mistake for a couple that just doesnt make many of those kinds of mistakes. Her situation is very unlike RFK's. He announced his run for president on March of the election year. She has announced hers a full year before that... I consider her astute enough in politics to know that she should not be mixing any references to assassinations or race, so why does she keep doing it? She got some negative responses to it in her early uses of the RFK situation...why continue to use it?
I can see her staying on in the race for a couple of reasons. First, she can solidify her cloudt within the party. Remember, the Senators club is a seniority driven club and she is pretty low on the totem pole right now, so she could use her supporters and power to leap frog a few and get some more choice committe assignments. Secondly, she can possibly get back some of the money she has loaned her campaign if she acquiesses early in June. Make a deal with democratic party to pay back some of the money that she personally loaned to her run for office. She has a strong support and the democratic party is going to have to make sure that they make her and her supporters happy...so that they vote for Obama come Novemember.
Unfortunately for her, she has met the perfect candidate to run against her within her party.

If Hillary does go I wonder if she will think that it was all for nothing, or did she enjoy the ride?

The key is how gracious the DNC is going to be to her when she exits. She has loaned her campaign several millions of personal dollars in loan. She really needs the DNC to paid off her campaign loans and that will be a start. The other key will be how far she is able to leapfrog the seniority process in the committee head distribution. She has a lot of pull right now and she needs to secure her promises now as after Obama is elected, her pull is gone.
I really cannot see her getting a VP offer. If she does, Obama deserves all the pain that comes with offering a VP'ship to basically 2 people. I just cant imagine having a former president sitting that close to my shoulder...

I would be shocked if Obama chose Hilliary as Vice President, I think Obama already 'chose' the man for the job, he has enough woman with his wife there I believe (see Thread about his wife).

It has been reported that the two sides are talking about concessions in her dropping out of the race. She could take a cabinet post. Her love of health care could have her as Secretary of Health and Human Services. I really see that as being to "low" of a office for her, because who is the last Secretary of Health and Human Services that anyone can name. I know I cannot name one! There are other post she could take, but I cannot see her taking anything less than Secretary of State. I really cannot see Obama giving her that position though...
There are reports of a VP'ship. I think that is wishful thinking. There is too much bad blood between the two. Plus, he is for change, so why are we bringing Clintons back to the Whitehouse? Let's not even mention Bill's name!
What I really see is her leapfrogging over other more senior leaders to take a cherry committee head in the senate. A committee leadership that keeps her in the spotlight periodically and gives her more power. It will be interesting to see which one she gets and who gets stepped on for it to happen.

Is it possible for her, if she loses, to run as an Independent Party? I just wonder why she has so much of her own money invested, could she have a backup plan?
Just curious.
