Her parents must have been really angry at her to just fly from Texas to Utah in order to get their daughter. I hope she is safe.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office has issued an endangered-person advisory after a 19-year-old University of Utah student was taken from her Holladay apartment Sunday -- reportedly by her own father who was upset that she had recently joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Danielle Alonso called the Sheriff's Office on Sunday morning and told authorities that her father -- 46-year-old Daniel Alonso -- was enraged that she had converted to the LDS religion and told her she needed to come home to Corpus Christi, Texas, according to Lt. Don Hutson. "She told us of some past physical abuse, and she said she's afraid and intimidated by her father," Hutson said. "We told her, 'You're an adult. You don't need to go with your father. But keep your doors locked, and if he shows up, you need to tell us.' " About 90 minutes after Danielle Alonso called the Sheriff's Office, her father showed up at the door of her basement apartment near 5800 South and 2100 East, Hutson said. Daniel Alonso and his wife, 48-year-old Gloria Alonso, had purchased one-way tickets from Texas to Utah. Danielle Alonso's roommate told deputies that she recommended Danielle call 911. But Danielle said she could talk to her father and calm him down. Instead, he stepped inside the doorway, put his arm around his daughter and "whisked her away in a rental car," Hutson said, adding that Danielle's wallet, credit card, cell phone and other personal belongings all were left at the apartment... |
