ACORN
What are your thoughts about ACORN? Should they be receiving funding from the US Federal Government?
I think that ACORN is a ok group but I do not believe that they should be getting federal funding. The fact that they want government reform should prohibit them from taking money from the very government they want to reform. It is my opinion that if they receive federal funding are they really working for reform?
ACORN Corruption
Glenn played the audio on radio today of the brazen, disturbing corruption at the Baltimore, Maryland ACORN office. Going undercover and posing as a couple who are a pimp and a prostitute, the helpful ACORN advisor gives them tips on tax fraud and how to keep those underage sex slaves under the radar of the government, all with a smile. Remember, this is the group that Obama said he'd call them in to help 'shape the agenda' of the next presidency of the United States. Comforting? No. Glenn plays and reacts to the audio clips. Ref. I saw clips of the investigative video with the woman dressed as a prostitute and at no time did I see the women representing Acorn encourage these people to 'do the right thing' even though they said they wanted to run a prostitution ring with underage girls.

Worst Acorn video yet
If you didn't think ACORN could get any worse after several of their employees (in multiple locations) tried to help a prostitute buy a house, lie to the IRS and run a brothel with underage hookers from El Salvador...you were wrong. It gets much worse. In today's tapes, this ACORN employee gives away the farm -- she names names of politicians she talks to each day, plus what bills they are lobbying heavily for (with taxpayer money). Oh, this Acorn employee is also a former hooker herself, who (in this audio tape) admits to killing her abusive husband. Your tax dollars hard at work! Ref. Source 3
There is a great article in the online Wall Street Journal about ACORN. It lists a few of the "indiscretions" that ACORN has committed, as well as discusses their current troubles.
It also notes the following:
QUOTE |
On Monday, the U.S. Senate voted 83-7 to strip Acorn, the premier community organizing group on the left, of more than $1.6 million in federal housing money meant to assist low-income people obtain loans and prepare tax forms. This dramatic step followed last Friday's decision by the U.S. Census Bureau to sever its ties with the organization, one of several community groups it was partnering with to conduct the nation's head count. |

What I have read is that the pair (pimp and prostitute) have tried this in several ACORN locations. While we are seeing the results of the ones that bit pretty hard on the scam, there were some that didnt bite. The only reason I mention it is that it is a bit unfair for all of ACORN to be viewed by the actions of these bad examples that may be a minority. Conversely, I really dont see a real use for ACORN as an organization if government does its job correctly and I view it as a huge waste of taxpayer money.
This pair is single handidly going to take down ACORN from getting any government funding. The scary part of it is that the ones that did bite on the scam. They really seemed to like doing it and it seemed as though this was not a particularly strange request of them...equate this a lots of people getting funding and advice on how to defraud the government.

ACORN Head Bertha Lewis Vows Action on Employee Misconduct, But Warns Group Targeted by "Modern-Day McCarthyism"
The anti-poverty group ACORN is coming under a firestorm of criticism after the group's workers were caught on camera appearing to offer advice to a pimp and prostitute. The video was a major strike for conservatives, who for years have accused ACORN of voter registration fraud during presidential elections. Republicans are calling for a complete cutoff of all federal funding to the group, which helps poor people fight foreclosures, fix tax problems, and register to vote. We speak with ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis. Ref. Source 9
