General Motors and the Canadian Auto Workers union continued their talks Monday in an effort to meet conditions that would qualify the company for government aid.

negotiations resume union GM

I believe that the fact that GM is going bankrupt is a big reason why the union is seeking to make sure they all have a steady income. I do not think the government should be paying except in unemployment funds.
