Dolphins seen trying to kill calf

Adult tucuxi dolphins have been seen attempting infanticide, an extremely rare behaviour. Ref. Source 2

Infanticide Dolphin

I wonder if there was something wrong with the calf that caused them to do this. I believe that some species do this to weed out the weak of the herd.
