Recharging road could power cars
South Korea's top technology university has developed a plan to power electric cars through recharging strips embedded in roadways, using a technology to transfer energy found in some electric toothbrushes. Ref. Source 1
I can see the Ontario power generators cringing already since our system is already taxed to the max. To know if this is a cost effective method one would have to know the losses in the transfer from electricity to electro-magnets and the electrical rates.
It might not be good for the general public but public transit perhaps. I just can not any countries electrical grind being ready to handle such a large influx of power usage.
Perhaps this is there way of justifying having some nuclear stations build with out so much political pressure against it.
The technology is sound but like you said it is going to take a lot of electricity to power this. I wonder if wind energy or even hydroelectricity can be used to power these so we do not have to build a lot more nuclear power stations. IF we could fet fusion down then we would have more than enough electricity.
True but if we get that underhand I think we would just install one as the engine to start with and save laying out tracks. That is leading into a different topic though so for now I think it is and interesting g concept on a small scale. Say major city centers.
