Cooking With Wine?
So I seen a discussion about cooking with wine (and beer) if it was against the word of wisdom?
I leaned towards the Yes it is against the word of wisdom more because it goes against the spirit of the law.
But I can't find anything specific on the matter.
The idea is that while cooking you burn off the alcohol and only leave the flavor.
But I compare that to people thinking decaffeinated coffee is okay. There is more then just caffeine in the coffee that makes it agasint the word of wisdom.
Even more wine is a no go with the Word of Wisdom. I assume that means in any form? (Alcohol or not)
More I would assume even just buying Wine or beer really isn't what we should be doing.
Anybody have any more official word on this then just me?

Wine Cooking
I don't know of any official position on the matter, I would believe most members (including general authorities) have consumed alcohol one way or another when they went to any restaurant because they usually deglaze their pans with wine.

Thats the kind of the point. How do you know if alcohol is all burned up?
Even so, does that mean LDS members are BUYING wine? Thats the part I feel goes to far.

If you know how to cook then you will know when it evaporates.

Cooking wine isnt the same as the one people drink(at least thats what I use), cooking wine. Its not like I'm buying it to drink or get drunk.

We have been given some guidance on this subject in the Doctrine and Covenants Section 27. The Prophet Joseph Smith went out to buy wine for the sacrament, while out he was met by a heavenly messenger and received this revelation:

If we are not to use wine even in the sacrament then I would think twice about purchasing wine for cooking. This scripture also mentions "new wine", which is grape juice and says that it would be OK to use if we grew the grapes ourselves.
It is my opinion that we should avoid purchasing wine even for cooking. Maybe this is a harsh interpretation on my part but there must be a reason that we are to avoid wine even for the sacrament.

Assuming you know a little about church history you would know the reason we stopped using wine in sacrament meeting was because they tried to poison the prophet a couple of times, one of the occasions was so serious that he dislocated his jaw. Its easier to put poison in wine than in water for obvious reasons of color.
Where do you get in the scriptures that new wine is grape juice?
