Fresh Install Windows 7 Or Upgrade?

Has anyone had poblems with doing an upgrade with Windows 7? I recently did an upgrade for someone from XP to Windows 7 and got trouble after with various conflcts. Doing an upgrade from Vista to Win 7 was no prblem though. I was wondering if it isn't better to just do a fresh intall on a Win XP machine.
