Some guests on FNC that are familiar with Sonia Sotomayor are saying she will be more liberal than any of the current Judges on the Supreme Court.

She has some interesting views on race/ethnicity and the outcome of certain cases that are truly controversial. Having said that and taking into consideration her humble background, it is great to see how much she has achieved.

Pres. Obama said he wanted an empathetic voice making major decisions and she is supposed to be it. I hope its not a case of I know more than you and thats what she's going to be calling empathy. We get enough of everyone telling us what is good for us but ourselves. The whole direction we are heading is scary.

I thought she is there to interpret law, not to create it? If so, what kind of decisions he is expecting her to do?

Empathy is the worst standard in creating law.
Law should be created based on a codified standard (in the case of the United States, it is the United States Constitution,) and it should apply to everyone equally regardless of race, social standing, or station.

Empathy results in society trying to determine why a murderer killed the child rather than declaring that murder is wrong regardless of the reason. It justifies the molester because he was molested as a child.
Empathy coming from a judge denies justice, dispenses the law unevenly and will ultimately result in justifying the misdeeds of society rather then upholding the law of the land.

The following is an interesting look at why empathy in a judge may not be a good thing.

Furthermore we should not be choosing a Supreme court Justice based on very superficial reasons such as the ethnicity and gender of that judge. It should be based on the ability for the judge to uphold the Constitution of the United States and be an impartial member of the Judicial branch of Government. Gender and Ethnicity should never be a deciding factor in a Supreme Court Justice in my opinion.

I did not hear Obama's speech in it's entirely, did he hint that? Is that what you think happened in this case?

I have listened to several of her recorded and published statements. She is a racist. She has clearly stated that her "female Latina" background means that her opinions will be better than those of "white males" who don't have her background. She has already decided in favor of racial quotas. Her own staff have described her as "not very smart" and a bully on the bench.

Everyone is making such a big deal about her being the first Hispanic on the Court. Didn't President Bush nominate a Hispanic man for the Court? The Left savaged him.

Anyway, here are couple of links to discussions about her, as well as a video of her actual feelings.

If you were going to have open heart surgery, would you want to be operated on by a surgeon who was chosen because he had to struggle to get where he is or by the best surgeon you could find-- even if he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and had every advantage that money and social position could offer?

This is one of the most important positions in the United States. And we aren't choosing people for these offices based upon their abilities, but based upon their race and gender.

Here is a quote that Michelle Malkin included in her column.
QUOTE
I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.

QUOTE
You want context? It's even worse than that sound bite. As National Journal legal analyst Stuart Taylor reported, "Sotomayor also referred to the cardinal duty of judges to be impartial as a mere 'aspiration because it denies the fact that we are by our experiences making different choices than others.' And she suggested that 'inherent physiological or cultural differences' may help explain why 'our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.'

Look like we are in for a great future. Too bad it appears that only the conservatives believe in Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Dream" of a color-blind society.
