Autonomous weapons are incredibly dangerous. Not just in terms of them going rogue, but in terms of how we perceive war.
We've seen some of it already with weaponized drones. Dealing death becomes easy when its just figures on a screen. It will become even easier when no human on your side is at risk or even pulling the trigger.
Computer bots are more like humans than you might think, having fights lasting years
Bots appear to behave differently in culturally distinct online environments. A new paper says the findings are a warning to those using artificial intelligence for building autonomous vehicles, cyber security systems or for managing social media. Ref. Source 5n.
Daishain has it right, we're forgetting about the horrors of war and that is bad. Where he has it wrong is about people not being in harm's way. People die on at least one side. And as our disgust for war fades war becomes more acceptable. Then one day we'll have a war where both sides can kill each other with ease, and to late we'll remember war is Hell.
I joined the Army to keep the country strong so there'd never be war she had to wage. Barring that, to make her strong enough to keep her safe from its horrors, keep those horrors away from her borders. Now it appears we are all forgetting those horrors, and by all I mean across the world. It's a scary time in which we live.
This is very frightening for the future. One of the main reasons people protest wars here in the US is the soldiers dying. If enough die it can turn public opinion against the war. With robots, virtually no one would have a vested interest in the war. No casualties coming home would mute protests for the most part. It's much easier to commit to a war when no one on your side is at risk of dying for the most part.

Kyrroeth,
Yes, no one on our side will be dying until our enemy figures out how to get back at us. That's the problem, we kill them in a war that never ends because is such a precision war that we never break their spirit and then one day they figure out how to hit us… and we wonder why they hit us at home and kill civilians. Why is because that is the only way they can hit us so they use it. I say this over and over and I mean it, war is supposed to be ugly so we only go to war as an absolute last resort. The thing is, when we do go to war we have to go in it 100% and to win at any cost. We have to break the enemy's spirit or the war will never end.
