Teacher Absenteeism

No excuse for teacher absenteeism

Raymond Hackett's column headlined "Teacher absenteeism'', (Express, May 26) seems to ask for some empathy for teacher absenteeism. Ref. Source 3

Absenteeism Teacher

Name: Richard

Comments: Are administrators to be blamed fully? Have you considered that administrators cannot effectively control teacher absenteeism except to appeal to the conscience of teachers? The MOE and TTUTA have agreed on a number of leave entitlements to teachers. Teachers generaly take advantage of leave entitlements with impunity. Teachers find ways to use leave entitlements to be absent from duty for most of the academic year and are paid for doing so. Teachers who are regular become frustrated and feel a sense of inequity and overworked and soon copy the behaviour of absentee teachers!

Richard, are you referring to the 28 days sick/casual leave or something different?
