TECIA'S TRAGIC END
Bullets fly, tempers flare as body of missing schoolgirl found in Laventille
Vows of revenge, death and destruction were made by residents of John John, Port of Spain, as the decomposing body of ten-year-old Tecia Henry was found stashed under a house at Plaisance Terrace yesterday morning. Ref. Source 5
Monsters in our midst
Dear Tecia, I'm sorry we were so careless with your life. I'm sorry that you won't dance and sing anymore, that you won't fall in love and know what a special gift it is to raise your own children. I'm sorry that you won't fly a kite and wish that you were that kite flying high above the world. I'm so deeply sorry that we failed you. Ref. Source 9
The Prime Minister Patrick Manning did not condemn the murder of this little girl, instead he told supporters not to take the killing at "face value." He said, "There is more to it than that, but I am not at liberty to say." When the Media pressured him to explain himself, he said he won't explain further.

We all grieve for all the little kids like Tecia who met their untimely demise at the hands of cruel beasts in human form. What a state of evil it seems some people has come to in this once isle of paradise. With news of these hideous crimes who would want to visit and bring their children also. Sure there is crime all over the world and also in New York City but Trinidad is so small that it is difficult to understand why the cops seem to drag their feet in this and other kidnap / murder cases. Is it a lack of training?, are they also scared? Information is critical, are the people also scared to speak up? Somebody had to have seen something or a suspicious behavior. A child has been brutally murdered and why the PM seems so insensitive?
Seepaz, for me they are "pass feeling", lack of training, lack of values...basically not interested. They have become part of the problem. Now with regards to the PM, is anyone really surprised? He is willing to do and say anything before admitting his incompetence to deal with the crime situation but truly he is not at fault but the MAJORITY of Trinis who put him where he is. "They like it so".
LDS_forever I can see your point in the "pass feeling" and "they like it so", but there will be more cases like Tecia and these murders will escalate. Especially if these perpetrators perceive that the law, the Government and the judicial system have no teeth or bite and the Trinidadian society accept this as how life is. Will Tecia be one of those lost in the wave of murders sweeping the country, another statistic. The people need to rally and raise up and do something. Or are they all afraid to speak up? What will happen in the near future if this crime escalates? Would parents, young people, fathers and older folks need to have bodyguards to walk with them to the shops, school, banks. Malls, even on the their neighborhood streets? Perhaps it will come to a another Iranian "Neda" before Trindadians rise up. Or is it pass feeling time?
I understand your points. As a foreigner living here, all I can say is that I have never seen a group of people more laid back than Trinidadians. The prices of food are ridiculous and instead of stopping buying certain items, they buy it MORE. They talk and complain but there is no "meat" behind those words. They have become complacent in their lifestyle and crime situation.
How many people speak about Sean Luke? (little boy who was brutally raped and murdered). Absolutely nobody. Tecia will be the same. Trini society have been "pass feeling" for a long time now.

Comments: Okay, basically yes this is a very sad case. But we must dissect this situation, the parents of Tecia [..], and this proves to be the motive in her kidnapping and death. It is not good in any way or manor but it is not something to take your child off the road for. Trini's are known to exaggerate. Also, Trinidad doesn't have close to the amount of murders they publish, Trinidad death toll comprises of about 1/3 manslaughter. (Manslaughter not incorporated in US statistics).
