Life During The Millennium

QUOTE (FarSeer @ 15-Jul 03, 12:35 AM)

"When you say, 'I can't!  I can't solve my problems!' I want to thunder out, 'Don't you realize who you are?  Haven't you learned yet that you are a son or a daughter of Almighty God? '" ...President Boyd K. Packer, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, "Self-Reliance," Ensign, Aug. 1975, 88.

This thread reminds me of a question that was asked in Sunday Class today. The question illustrates the attempt to understand the nature of the Church and Government during the 1000 years when the Lord Jesus rules earth. Will there be freedom to an extent espoused by the US Constitution? Since greed plays such an important role in Capitalism, will businesses be more regulated than they are now? My own feelings about this is that the influence of Jesus Christ will impact many of the activities in that 1000-year period. On the mount of configuration - Peter was so impressed by Jesus that he too was changed that day - mentally. Who would not be changed by the love and power of Jesus then? If there is anyone who wont be effected by Jesus, I supposed it would be due to a limitation of the human mind, which might cause some differences of oppinion. That maybe allowed under the principle of free agency. I think. What do you think? undecided.gif

This topic was started by moving this post here from another thread "beginning and end of it all" -- I thought it was interesting enough to start new. Roz

Since Satan will be bound for that 1000 year period, and since I believe all sin originates with Satan, no matter how small the infraction, I believe businesses will not need regulation to run properly. We, as a people, will be better during these 1000 years before Satan is again loosed upon the earth for a short while.

From what I understand (and I could be wrong), there will be righteous people from all different religions/sects or whatever... who may never have learned about the restored Gospel -- for instance the Jews! And we as Saints will be given further Truth and Light -- we have been denied some of it in the past because of unbelief or inability to live the precepts. So I would imagine there will be a great deal of teaching going on, and still of course free agency -- but can you imagine people being face-to-face with Christ and not believe or accept????

I've also heard in church classes that the "binding" of Satan is not a literal binding, as in being tied up in chains, but a righteous binding -- those on the earth in that day will be so righteous that Satan has no influence over them, and hence is bound.

In my opinion, of course.

You know, when I think about the Millenium and think about the opportunity of having Christ face to face then I wonder how the people and Christ are going to handle it? I imagine the people will want to see him every 5 minutes laugh.gif...I know I have a great imagination but I can see on my mind thousands of people asking him for a blessing or to touch his hand or just talk with him. It would be such an amazing moment!!.

That is for certain... for those who believe, I'm sure it will be overwhelming to be in his presence.

A moment, a month, a millennium, eternity... I can't even begin to imagine 1,000 years...

Absolutely. And those who have fought against Christ and Christianity forever, it will be difficult for them to accept the truth, even in the face of His reality.

One of the areas that I am particularly interested in studying right now is Zion - the society, the concept, the culture.

My understanding is that society during the Millenium (Zion) will actually be based on the concepts of the US Constitution, with full freedom and liberty guaranteed to the people.

Remember that the Millenium is a Terrestial level, not a Celestial level of society and existence.

Zion is a cooperative society, not capitalistic, not communistic, not socialistic. I don't think there will be "businesses" as we know them. I am sure that there will be tradesmen, craftsmen, engineers, etc, but we will be doing what we love and know, and helping everyone else with what they need.

As for all of us wanting to spend time with the Saviour, I think that those who are Zion will have learned to live by the Spirit to the point that they will feel the Saviour's presence all the time anyway. I truly doubt that the Saviour will be available for our casual interest. This will be the time for so many to reach the point of recieving their callings and elections, after which time they will be seeking the face of the Father.

Besides which, we/they will be too busy to be bothering the Saviour too much smile.gif

So are we saying the earth will be just like when the Lord created it? Yes, we are talking about a different earth than we know of, where the continents and islands shall again "become one land" and when mountains and valleys will no longer be found. Now, how literally we have to take this?.

That is my understanding. I don't know whether the continents will all be combined before, during, or after the Millenium.

However, it is very clear from Revelation, that either prior to the Millenium, or at the beginning of it, the seas will be violently changed, and all life within them will be destroyed.

I am not at all sure whether or not there will be any mountains, hills, or seas. Some of the prophecies, especially in Isaiah, about the mountains being thrown down, for example, could easily be using mountain as a metaphor for nation. I don't really know, and have never read any discussion on that point.
