Mosquitoes in Trinidad

Recently I have notice how many mosquitoes are around! Yes, I know we live in a hot climate but this is getting ridiculous. I just read several letters in the newspapers of people all over Trinidad complaining about the same thing.

The Ministry usually have this truck where they spray all over insecticide but nobody have seen them for quite a while!

What's going on? It is truly a concern taking into consideration the present situation with Dengue!

It is ridiculous... It has reached such an alarming level that I have to buy tape to cover spaces in the windows where they might get through.

Could it be because it's the rainy season now, there are more puddles around and this make mosquitoes breed more? And there isn't even a clear barrier between the dry and rainy seasons now so that might be another cause.

Trinidad Mosquitoes

I feel your pain. We have so many mosquitoes here I am thinking of writing to the governor to change the state bird to the mosquito. The fact that we have had soo many ponds of water from the flooding it makes it hard to keep ahead of the darn things. I am thinking of getting some bats for the yard and bat houses so they keep the mosquitoes down to a very small number. IF the bats get too fat to fly my cats will take care of them. biggrin.gif

Mosquitos are already the unofficial state bird of Alaska. They do seem to be a bit worse this year. In Anchorage they do abatement and so it doesn't get quite as bad, but any trip into the bush and you better have some good bug dope and netting or you will get eaten alive.

Usually the health vector sprays, but for some reason they are not doing and the government isn't saying why. I often wonder if that chemical is in some way harmful towards humans, pets, and more especially babies.

I didn't think mosquitoes lived in colder climates. You don't get dengue or malaria do you?

MOSQUITO SPRAY

Yes folks, there is a new mosquito spray in town! So throw away the Bop, Baygon, Raid and Goldfish insecticides. Buy yourself a big bottle of Listerine. Yes you read correctly, Listerine! Here's what to do: find an old empty spray bottle; fill it with four ounces of Listerine and spray it liberally on your dog house, around the window frames, door frames (not on the door) and even on the floor! I got this tip from a friend, tried it and it really works! Not to mention, your home smells great, depending on what flavour of listerine you may buy! I have the Cool mint flavour. It feels so good to relax without hearing that annoying, high pitched ringing sound in your ears!
