Britain is hiring former computer hackers to join a new security unit aimed at protecting cyberspace from foreign spies, thieves and terrorists, the country's terrorism minister said. Ref. Source 3

I don't think governments have much choice but to hire the bad guys. Beciming a hacker is not like training at bootcamp you have to be talented at what you do and doing it for years. The only pool they have to hire these kinds of people is from those already doing it. Thats really kind of scary when you think about it.
