Digital Film

I am no professional photographer, but I have done a fair amount in my day. I think if you are trying to have to absolute best photo without having to touch it up, then film is still the way to go. However, for the home/family photographer, I like using the digital pics. This allows me to save every picture with out paying to have them developed. In addition, I like to use Adobe Photoshop for some pictures for special ocassion and just having fun. You cannot do that with film. Digital pics give you the freedom to edit and make mistakes, and when you are finished, you can use your own picture printer to print out whole exceptable pics.

I prefer digital for all occasions. I used to do wedding photography with film cameras, and there was always the nagging doubt as to the quality of the shot. Then you had to have a developer that you trusted enough to print your pics. Since decent digital resolution (9Mpix) has been developed and write speeds to memory cards have come down to millisecs, digital prints are most definitely better for both the professional and the amateur photgrapher.

It is not a matter of preference, it's an issue of quality. Digital has not been perfected to capture realistic colour and reproduction. Take a good look at most of the high end magazine shots - they were also done using film (positive). For my professional shots I use positive film which I scan via a film scanner. For fun pics I use digital.

Digital cameras here to stay

It's staggering to think that just 10 years ago photographers were turning their noses up at the "new" digital cameras that were appearing on the market. Ref. Source 4
