Luna
What were the specific powers of Luna, Goddess of the Moon?
The name of Diane comes from the Romans. They are the ones who took the name Luna and changed it to Diane as part of their beliefs. I am not sure where the original name of Luna came from but it is said she rode the night skys with her chariot giving light to the night world. The nights that were moonless were attributed to her going to see her lover.
Luna is the twin sister of Apollo and the daughter of Zeus. She is also known as Diana, Artemis, Cynthia, and Selene. She is the Goddess of the Moon and of night hunting. The word lunar comes from her name. She is thought to have power over women.
She is seen as a beautiful Goddess with a bow. When women died sudden deaths Luna was to blame, but Luna was also known for healing. She was said to ride a chariot in the sky. The crescent moon is her symbol.
