When I read about this last night I was shocked. If that is how he feels, he needs to ask the AG for his resignation. IMO, this isn't how a president should handle things. But this isn't a normal president… and he may be a genius in how he handles the news and caters to his supporters. That said, is this how he'd handle it in one of his companies? I think not. He'd fire the person.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with the Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak to discuss Trump campaign matters during the 2016 presidential election, according to US intelligence intercepts, The Washington Post reports.
According to the Post, Kislyak told his superiors in Moscow about two conversations he had with Sessions, which included a discussion on policy issues important to the Kremlin. Sessions was a foreign policy adviser to Trump and major campaign supporter at the time.
Sessions originally never disclosed any interactions he had with Kislyak, but a meeting first came to light in March when the Post reported that he met with Kislyak at an event during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
Sessions met with Kislyak for a second time during the presidential campaign, this time in his Senate office in Washington. This meeting, in September, also wasn't publicly known until the Post reported about it in March.
Sessions did not disclose either meeting when he applied for his security clearance. He also did not mention it when he was asked about contact with Russians during his Senate confirmation hearings earlier this year. Sessions denied any campaign-related meetings with Russians at the confirmation hearings, saying, "I did not have communications with the Russians." Ref. CNN.
And how did the Post get access to this information? This would be classified at some of the highest levels. So, if it's true then Congress needs to investigate Sessions. And the person who leaked this needs to be found and put in jail for ten years and fined $50k, both of which are prescribed by law for leaking classified information, either intentionally or not. If it isn't true then the person who leaked the lie needs to be found and publicly pilloried.
Trump continues his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, criticizing him for failing to investigate Hillary Clinton. President Trump continued to attack his own attorney general on Tuesday, accusing Jeff Sessions of failing to investigate former election opponent Hillary Clinton and officials who have leaked information to news reporters. "Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (Where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!" Trump said in an early morning tweet storm. Ref. USAToday.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announces broad crackdown on leaks. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a broad crackdown on unauthorized disclosures of classified information, demanding that the "Culture of leaking must stop." Since January, Sessions said the Justice Department has "More than tripled the number of active leak investigations, as compared to the number pending at the end of the Obama administration." Ref. USAToday.
There will always be leaks no matter what laws you introduce or policies you make just check countries like China and Russia that try to bolt down info but it still leaks.
