D&c 98: 23

D&C 98: 23

Check this verse and just imagine someone doing something hurtful to your loved ones, how difficult it would be to not revile or seek revenge. Yet the reward comes only if we do not seek either. Thoughts?

QUOTE
  23 Now, I speak unto you concerning your families-if men will smite you, or your families, once, and ye bear it patiently and revile not against them, neither seek revenge, ye shall be rewarded;

It's incredibly difficult to step away from those reactions. I have this situation in my sister's family - her ex-husband has done some horrible things to her children, all five of her daughters. How do you forgive that? She more than I, but it's heart breaking to know what he's done and be helpless to change or heal anything. It's hard not to want to hurt him in return, or even just wish for vengeance.

I feel for your sister's family farseer. That scripture I believe specifically refers to the saints that were being persecuted because they were Mormons and not just being targeted randomly.
