Obama: Cambridge Police "Acted Stupidly" in Arrest of Harvard Scholar Henry Louis Gates
In his fourth prime-time White House news conference, President Obama was asked about last week's arrest of the famed African American scholar Henry Louis Gates inside his own home last week by a white police officer in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who was responding to a report of a possible burglary. Obama criticized the arrest, placing it in the context of "a long history in this country of African Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. Ref. Source 1
I believe Obama going on national tv and basically saying that all white police officers are racist was very wrong. I believe has has driven a wedge into any steps that the police have done to show that they are not racist. Obama did not look to see that the office who arrested Gates was a officer who taught against racial profiling and was appointed to that position by a black police chief. I think the officers record speaks volumes. ut that was wiped out by an unthinking american president.
What I don't get is why is our president getting so involved in this is it hust because he is black?

He did not apologize to the police for calling them stupid or saying that they were racial profiling. SO now we have a incident that has been blown way out. I believe the officer involved was put into a catch 22. IF he did not ID the guy and the guy was not Gates and they cleaned the house out he would be in serious trouble and Gates would be yelling to all the media about inadequate police protection. But since the officer arrested Gates because he would not identify himself he is now a racist and was profiling. Either way Gates makes a big outcry and says the police are wrong.
The president should have done the smart thing and stayed out of this totally. But no he is not a smart man and spouts out about stupid police and how blacks and latinos know that they are going to be profiled over and over again like they always have been. I just shake my head and walk away it is not worth the argument because no one will now believe anything the police say about how they do not profile.
Maybe he thought he needed to say something about it because it was a black man and a harvard professor too.

No he had to say something about it because he was a friend and even not knowing the facts he opened his mouth and called all police racist in how they deal with blacks and latinos. Now that stirred up a huge hornets nest.
