Trinidad: Buying Used Car / Cars
What is the best way to go about buying a used car in Trinidad?
Yes I agree with LDS. People must exercise caution when responding to advertisements in the newspapers concerning the sale of second hand cars. I think it also helps to ask friends who know second hand car dealers.
Personally, I believe that it is worthwhile for people to purchase a foreign used car. We have one and never had any problems with it. Of course, it is important for you to search for a reputable foreign used car dealer to avoid meeting any "con men." If you are sure about a person whom you wish to buy a second hand car from, it also helps to carry a mechanic who can inspect the car carefully because usually, you must purchase the car "as is." The mechanic will also be able to detect if the car was fixed (that is welded or patched up) after the current owner was involved in an accident. Seems like a headache but it is always good to know all these things before you buy.
