Basil ...The royal herb
Basil is one of the world's most widely-grown and used herbs with a warm, clove-like flavour and smell. I have a few plants in my herb garden and use it especially when I experiment with Italian recipes. This herb is a relative to mint, and there are over 60 varieties with various tastes, colours and names like sweet, mammoth, dark opal, cinnamon and licorice. The leaves used in cooking can be green, reddish, or purple. This herb is an important ingredient of Italian and Asian cuisines. Ref. Source 7
