It sounds like it could be a good airplane, but I don't understand why these ministers are so intent on supporting it when it is delayed over a year and way over budget. They want to replace the Hercules. It would take a lot to convince me that this A400 is a good replacement, as the C-130 Herc is an amazingly useful and durable vehicle.

I have just looked up the A400M on [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A400M]Wikipedia[/ur]. It says that the A400 is expected to give double the payload with a greatly extended range over the C-130. It appears that they have similar tactical landing and takeoff capabilities, so if the price is right, this is probably a good alternative.
