Brett Favre has handed the Minnesota Vikings one more loss. The 39-year-old Favre called Vikings coach Brad Childress on Tuesday to tell the coach he won't be coming out of retirement to play for Minnesota. "It was the hardest decision I've ever made," Favre told ESPN. "I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable.
He thinks this is bad news for the Vikings? I do not think it is bad news at all. Now they can continue with their young quarter back and young team and build from there. They did not do too bad by making the playoffs last year with such a young team. Now that they have more experience they can do even better. We do not need Favre at all.
I agree with going with the young QB, but they also made a mistake of signing Rosenfelds and opening up the competition for the starting job. Jackson did pretty good last year at protecting the ball and minimizing mistakes. He has gotten better each year. I think if they give the job to Rosenfelds out of camp/exhibition games then Tavaris is done.
It is kind of the way I look at Leinart for the Cardinals. He had the job and was improving (not as much as Jackson) and then they brought in a senior QB as backup that ended up being his competition in camp the next year. Leinart lost. I honestly dont think he is going to recover from it...well, definitely not in Arizona. Dont get me wrong, Rosenfelds is no Warner by a long shot, but this hit to Jackson's development could really damage his career.
One More Try?
McLEAN, Va. - Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, told USA TODAY's Skip Wood on Tuesday that Favre is headed for Minnesota and will sign with the Vikings. "It's a done deal," Cook said. "He thinks he still has something left in the tank and I think it will work well." Ref. USAToday
