Maybe its a language thing but I have no idea what adibasharmin is talking about. Fire, smoke and Allah? I think if a person's beliefs makes them a good person then no one should interfere with that. Its a lot better than having no religion and just being a bum.
I haven't read far back but just want to say I agree with the title of this thread. I think being human automatically instills a certain code in you. That can be influenced by your culture but I strongly feel ultimately people know what is humane and inhumane.
If you go by that you will be good, that has little to do with most people conception of God as people know him/her/it today.
Also God was created by man, we evolved god over the ages into what it is today. The good and bad characteristics of god are a mirror of ourselves anyway.
We were talking about something like this in class the other day. Good is what society says is good. So the people in Iran might think something is good that we in America wouldn't. I guess religion hopes to kind of say who is right and who isn't with what they think is good.
