Binge Eating

What do you think about people who binge? Is it a psychological problem or a medical problem?

Study: Binge-eating cause may be genes

Binge-eaters who say they can't help it may be right. A study suggests a weak gene, not feeble willpower, may be the cause for some people. The research may point the way to a future pill to tame their appetites

Oh so now I know why I eat so much, its all in the genes!!! I think binge eatting is similar to drinking, when you do it too much it hurts afterwards!

It is all a matter of control. If you want to look good then you have to work at it. I like to eat, but I also like to look good, so I know when to stop.

Model, I wish everyone could see it so simply, but most people in these modern times live to eat rather than eat to live.

Seems like there is a new term out for those who are even bigger than big?

It depends on the situation. I've had to take a lot of psychotropic medications in the past five years, and I can tell you that some such as Zyprexa cause you to binge-eat against your better judgment and will. Once an idea for a certain food pops in to your head, there is no eliminating the thought. You can try to sleep, but you won't be able to get to sleep. Not until you satisfy this craving will you be able to do anything else. Its impossible to get your mind off the focus of your craving.

Since I stopped taking Zyprexa (and one other antidepressant who's name I can't recall), my weight's dropped from 195 pounds to 167 pounds in about six months. There are a variety of drugs that are associated with weight gain, They are generally only used when weight gain would be considered a lesser problem than the condition the drug is being administered to treat. sad.gif

Well, how maddening is that? My gosh, it seems bad enough to be upset already, and then to add this to your list of troubles.... Yikes!

At least you have been able to change medications.

I admit to occasional binges… usually ice cream or potato chips (Or both at the same time). Disgusting, I know, but sometimes I just can't stop sad.gif(At least I don't vomit afterwards, that would be really gross…).
