House may fund unwanted weaponry

WASHINGTON - The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives is poised to give the Pentagon dozens of new ships, planes, helicopters and armored vehicles that Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the military doesn't need. Ref. Source 1

I don't trust Mr. Gates as far as I can throw a Bradley! Before taking his word on what is and isn't needed, I would have to hear from the Generals in the field. I wouldn't put too much stock in what the Pentagon Generals have to say either.

At the same time, it is entirely possible, even probable, that many of these programs are just pork for favored donors to the Congress Critters.

So, maybe there needs to be some detailed analysis by both Left and Right oriented watchdogs.
