My Favorite Actress: Ashley Smitch
I thought of this topic after having seen the trailer for The Core for the second consecutive night.
Every movie, to some extent, asks that you suspend disbelief, to accept an unlikely or unfamiliar premise as real or the truth as it leads you along. Some ask you to think in a world where elves, wizards, and magic are natural and commonplace, where forces of good and evil fight epic wars. Some ask you to modify your understanding of natural laws and phenomena or manmade technology. Others hold that outwardly normal people can have superhuman abilities, have telepathy and psychokinesis, see the future, or transform into another being during certain conditions. Though we see little of these things in the real world, we can usually accept the presuppostions these movies put forth.
Some movies, though, ask a little too much. No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot accept what it's asking you to believe. Others so horribly mangle facts or reality that you lose all desire to continue watching the movie, as it can do nothing to redeem itself.
Which movie asked too much of you?
There are list of movies that actually accomplish such a feat, another teen movie for starters, space cowboys(who in their right mind would send some onld geezers into space) Ammergeddon gosh that was obvious. There are loads that why I no longer watch english movies I 'll settle for the foregin movies it easier to accept.
No offense but I do not see the entertainement value of:
1. Most US/UK comedy skits and movies as the humor is more about rudeness than the good classical fun of the Jerry Lewis day.
2. Indian movies - besides not understanding the need for music and dance in a movie I do not understand why the themes are always the same, guy wants girl, etc.
3. Power Rangers and other low budget productions... please, if I were a kid I doubt I would be interested in it, BUT you know there are kids out there that love it?
First of all, excellent writing on your post xtrasweetgirl...it read like a professional review.

Even though I haven't seen it and frankly DON'T want to id have to say from looking at the trailer Dumb and Dumber insults my intelligence ...I mean I can handle things based on science cause I know that that field is revolutionary but to actually believe that 2 people can be that stupid and still be alive...now that is jus well plain DUMB.
I've got a movie that really insulted my intelligence. My husband borrowed the movie: 'Kung Pow: Enter the Fist' from his mother. This is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. It tried for comedy through all the jokes and gags, but please gimme a break. : The only good scenes in the movie were the parts that they showed in the previews. I'm glad that I didn't waste my time or energy on going to see this in the theaters. Because I would have left the theater mad wasting my money to see it. It went through every lame attempt to get a laugh. Like in the old Godzilla movies where the American speech was dubbed in for America showing only to have the person that was speaking to have their lips move and no speech come out or when they weren't speaking and you could hear the person talking. That part got old after the first 3 minutes of the movie. Hollywood could have done alot better with this movie.
Yes, there are movies that insult the average person's intelligence, but then there are people out there who need to read the directions for using shampoo and still ask, "how many times am I supposed to 'repeat'?" Unfortunately, the state of society is measured by what people laugh at. Y'think we're in trouble?
Ultimately, it's not the viewers of these insulting movies that I question. It's the writers, producers, directors, and financial supporters who make them available. But we're the ones who allow them to continue by paying to see them. The bottom line is the bottom line. Money talks. I've seen excellent movies that didn't make it to the box office while some of the worst were box office hits.
There's a lot of stupidity in our world. Some have taken stupidity to its limits. Some movies aren't the only things that I find insulting. Add to the list: commercials, some television shows, politicians, junk mail and email, spammers, internet pop-ups, and a few books, too ... I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
