Do you think that Mormons, in general, can be overly critical and suspicious in their analysis about anything around them or is it just how people are today in a modern society where scams and fraudulent practices run rampant?

I think this is not unique to LDS members I think we just live in a very dangerous world so you need to be aware of your surroundings. As Jesus said "Watch and pray always."

Its as simple as this, no matter where you go you will have critics. Its just how life is. Expect it, learn to live with it and grow from it. You can make it more complexed but it is as simple as that.

I want to address this as two separate issues. First I think that LDS are not overly critical on many things compared to Non LDS. However, I do think that LDS get overly critical with those who have anything to say about the Church. I also think the LDS are quick to think that we are persecuted people in the 21st century. I just do not think this is so. I do think that we perhaps are more critical with others in the church, but this is expected because of the personal and emotional value that we place on the church. I think that if we went to any other church we would find it there as well.

2nd issue. I think that LDS are generally very naive or willing to trust others more when it comes to scams, and fraudulent practices. So perhaps we are not as critical as we need to be in this area. Reason being is look how many pyramid scams lurk in the church and in Utah. I believe Utah has the highest white collar crime rate in the nation. We like to trust people a little to much I suppose.

Why does this even relate to members of the church? There are critics anywhere. Also there are scam artists anywhere and people naive enough to fall for it.

Josh, the man is right! Members can be very naive. They'll believe anything you say to them. All you have to do is look the part, act the part and they are ready to give you their CC number. I could never understand that. I think they need to read less of their scriptures and more of the newspaper. Well, of course I don't mean that, but they do need to pay attention to how the world has become. Announcement: not everyone you meet is temple worthy with a recommend!

I think that is stereotyping to say that we are naive. I for one don't just fall for anyone that "looks the part".

Thats right Mc Kay. A remarkable quote by Harold B. Lee:

QUOTE
"As I say, it never ceases to amaze me how gullible some of our Church members are" - Harold B. Lee, "Admonitions for the Priesthood of God", Ensign, Jan 1973

And yes lds members can be overly critical particularly if you're not a traditional member.
