Hi Charm - I'm a UK citizen with a property in Tobago
I have been a regular visitor since the mid-eighties and have seen a lot of changes down the years. I would ultimately love to live permanently in Trinidad and Tobago if it was possible
I like the style and culture of the twin islands and I think the locals (both islands) are wonderful and friendly people
As an Englishman I often feel embarassed at the behaviour of my fellow countrymen both in UK but most especially when they are abroad
The number of nasty crimes in Tobago has dramatically risen over the years (as it has in nearly every part of the world) and although personally I feel relatively safe (I feel as if I am relatively streetwise) the general perception in UK is that Tobago but in particular Trinidad (especially Port of Spain) are dangerous places to visit
Not only that but the Government of Trinidad and Tobago is not particularly interested in addressing the problem
Ha ha! I stand out alright. I'm one of the few (but growing number) of white men to wear dreads. To be honest I get more hassle in the rural part of UK where I live, than in Tobago where a lot of the locals know me by now!
Next time I'm over I was planning to go shopping in POS to get some furnishings for my house there. My friend (a black guy from Tobago) says he'll come with me and my wife. He knows his way around POS
On a scale of 1 to 10 how safe do you reckon we'll be given all the stuff you read in The Express?
I'm hoping with this new change in government we can see a drastic turn around in the crime rates and tourists can feel good about coming back to Trinidad and Tobago on vacation.
