I am not sure if you are looking for a reply, but here is one since you make it a public issue wink.gif

1. First of all why is it necessary to congratulate someone for reaching 'x' post count? If we are about quality and not quantity then it should not matter. For that matter who started that? I can understand if some praise is given to a new user for reaching 'x' posts as a way of encouragement, but it seems that everyone is posting when someone reaches what they consider a high post count. For instance: 'Congrats for reaching 300', then a little while later 'Congrats for reaching '400' and so on... when does it stop?

2. Well, it happens to all of us... I have crossed the 10,000 barrier enough times that I should be on... hmmmm... maybe 15,000, but it is no biggie to me since as I said before... it is not about number of posts you have. In fact you will notice that I have even taken post count from certain Boards that do not really add up to Intellectual Discussion. I think everyone is becoming so engulfed with features, numbers, FP and games that they forget the foundation of this Community is Intellectual Discussion and all the rest are just added features... nothing more.

I wasn't looking for a reply. I made it public here because I don't keep a blog. Also, because others too probably have similar experiences. It was meant as a light hearted "rant."

However, it is a fact that we do congratulate people on reaching certain milestones in posting numbers. In fact, we must maintain a certain posting percentage to play RPGs, we must post or be deleted, as well. So, it isn't entirely true that numbers don't count. I do agree that quality is far more important than quantity, but I still take pride in the fact that I have posted as much as I have. I try to make sure they are all quality posts, just the same.

We have links to show us who the top posters are for the day, and in total. So, there is some measure of status granted to how many posts you achieve.

I agree it is not biggie, but it is definately not a "non-issue." tongue.gif At least not for me. *smile*

This can be easily bought in the shop, but you won't get points for posting in it tongue.gif

I think you are using these out of context. The posting percentage is a means to guarantee that a user will show up to participate in a game and not a means of how much they post. In the past a user would make 30 posts and then not show up for days or even weeks and expect to play immediately. Also, it is true that you must post or be deleted, but one post in six months will actually save your account, so still that does not equate to a post count - it is just a matter of who is active and who is not.

Nobody is disputing that.

Actually that is a default of the Community and not something I added, it is merely an indication of who is very active and who is not. It also shows total posts but it does not show quality posts meaning that if you posted 10 posts in the Jokes board then this feature would also count it.

Actually the best feature for a comparison of how well you are doing is Charisma, and this has recently been refined to make it even more calculating about how a user is doing.

I must admit, JB is right! Truth is I struggle with being superficial and shallow. I try hard to hide it, but sometimes, the real me comes shining through! biggrin.gif I will have to keep trying to be a better person. With the help of this forum, nothing is impossible.

Nah, I think it is just the good ole' G.I. Jane shinning through! wink.gif I could not imagine life here without some excitement from you once in awhile, who knows... like you said maybe this will help others who have thought the same way about the dreaded post count.

Funbikerchick Introduction

Ouch!

I had such plans for postings yesterday evening...but, then came the fall. We got another 7 or 8 inches of snow on Saturday. This the wet kind because it isn't all that cold out. So yesterday a good bit of melting until nightfall when it froze up again. I was at a friend's house for a Family Home Evening. As I left, they jinxed me by saying "be careful not to fall in the driveway." Well, I am sure you can already guess what happened...That's right, BANG right down on the ground. I really fell hard too. Not on my butt either, but flat out on my back. Hit my head and left elbow. My head didn't hit too hard because I had my scriptures in a bag on my shoulder. They ended up behind me under my shoulders so it helped cushion the blow for my head. My elbow, on the other hand, hit really hard. In fact, just the act of typing this message is really painful, so I guess there won't be a lot of posting today, either.

What happened to Spring!?!? I just saw a report that says Boston has received 48 inches more snow than normal; Worcester has received 52 inches above normal. I live between Worcester and Boston. I have had enough snow already. I need to get the motorcyle out!

Oppsss... Sorry about that Tena, I hope you get plenty of rest and fast healing. I guess you are using the RICE method of recovery: Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate? How much leave from work are you going to get?

I will be at work this morning. Nothing appears broken. Just very bruised. I hit right on the elbow bone. It hurts to type too much because apparently, "the finger bone is connected to the elbow bone." smile.gif

I am worried it will hurt more as the day goes on. That is usually the way with soft tissue injuries. I am quite lucky I didn't get seriously hurt. At my age, falling isn't a good thing.
