It seems renters are able to be pickier in areas where there is an abundance of available homes to rent. However when you rent in areas where there is no longer space to develop, there are a smaller amount of houses available, and many of those could be classified as 'needing improvement' to say the least.

The thing is that everybody is taken or trying to take advantage of the current market. Renters know people are desperate to either sell their houses or rent them therefore they get more pickier. Still the prices of rent in the US is quite high. You can rent a house with a yard in a decent area for around US$900-1000US which could be almost as much as a mortgage but I guess the down payment is the issue of most folks.

Well nothing wrong with landlords trying to make things easier for the renters. For years, renters have to put up with landlords who don't care much about the property and try to raise it at every given opportunity. Now the tables have turned!
