Accident Boating Hurt Citizens Trinidad

It seems like there are conflict reports, some media houses say the arm was re-attached and others say no. I just feel so sorry for this girl and her family and all the things they have been through with NO fault of their own! And why is it the police not releasing the names of the people involved in this accident? If they were civilians they would have done so by now! What are they trying to do? angry.gif

Comments: Honestly it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. I visit that bay often with my family, and there are always some idiots flying through the bay on their pirogues, with people yelling at them from the shore because they're going TOO FAST...I don't know how they can think that's safe, it's a recreational bay! People swimming, skiing, kayaking.

When a pirogue is going that fast, the bow of the boat is too high for any forward visibility. So they were driving blindly and I guess, what...just hoping no one was in their way? Completely irresponsible. Reminds me of the accident in Tobago at Pigeon Point Beach. Unacceptable.

The papers did report the coast guard officer's name, who tried to leave the scene of the crime by the way, but I can't remember it right now. He was supposed to be on sick leave so he's under some form of disciplinary action, but I haven't heard anything about a criminal charge yet..which there most definitely should be.

I will be releasing a statement to the Press through NewsDay within the next week. NewsDay is the only media source in Trinidad that treated my family with respect. Paige is currently in Boston under the care of the best Doctors in the World.

I will not only tell all that we know, but I will also reveal the name of the person who was driving the boat.

I am very upset with how the Authorities in Trinidad have handled this issue, and I have given them many many chances to keep me updated, which they have not.

Right now, no one authority has jurisdiction on this issue. The Police cannot do anything because they have no jurisdiction on the water. The Coast Guard cannot do anything because they cannot arrest anyone, and the Maritime people only deal with Commercial issues.

Good for you! I have wonder why they haven't released the name of the person responsible when they usually do. Was Paige arm re-attached? How is she doing otherwise? I can imagine the anger you feel about this whole thing. Wishing Paige and your wife a full recovery,
LDS

Paige's arm was amputated 8cm below her left elbow. She has had 9 operations over the last 3 weeks, and is in extreme pain.

I will post more information after the release with NewsDay

Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear this. My family and I will be praying for her specially tonight. Are you all taking some sort of counseling? I know is extremely needed in situations like this because it really changes the whole outlook of things. Recently, a British couple was brutally beaten in Tobago (they almost died) but they fathom the idea of returning some day. For me, it's crazy. I know I couldn't.

As a foreigner living here, I cannot wait to have a chance and migrate. The country is on a state of decadency and the same "care" you have received so far, it's the same for everything. Terrible.

Please take care of yourself as well and keep us updated with her progress if you have a chance. Thanks.
