Private Candidate Cxc Fees To Be Removed

Good news for a change. In the past private candidates needed to pay registration fees but from January next year they will no longer have to do it.

Private candidates will no longer be required to pay a registration fee to sign up for the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations from January 2010, the Ministry of Education has said.

In a statement issued to announce this latest development, the ministry said all fees in respect of registration for CXC exams will be removed for nationals who register as private candidates. In the past, only students enrolled at secondary schools had their fees met by the State.

"Based on last year's private registration figures, the ministry is expected to spend approximately TT$6.6 million as a result of this initiative," the statement added.

However, private students who register late for the exams will be required to pay the full fee for late registration charged by CXC-which is BDS $50 or TT$162. The Education Ministry said it will meet "all the examination related costs except late entry fee associated with the Caribbean Examinations Council examinations for private candidates".

By removing the fees for registration, the ministry said it hoped more students will be encouraged to sign up for exams. Free registration will, however, be limited to twice per subject...
