I notice an emphasis in the Mormon faith about revelation. Does this mean the Mormon prophet literally speaks with God or does he claim some kind of dream or vision? Does he provide evidence of speaking with God? Nay miracles or predictions that were fulfilled?
Many of the Prophets (an office in the Priesthood, which has leadership over the entire church) have claimed specific, clear revelations. Some examples include Joseph Smith, the first Prophet, who claimed to have been visited by God, the Father and Jesus Christ. Additionally, he had many visions and other visitations.
Subsequent Prophets such as Brigham Young, John Taylor, and Lorenzo Snow claimed that Jesus Christ visited them to give them specific instruction. Others have had visions and dreams.
At the same time, there are literally thousands of recorded visions, dreams and miracles among other members of the Church. Joseph F. Smith recorded a very detailed dream that helped people to understand what happens immediately after our deaths. Heber C. Kimball, an Apostle in the mid-1900s, recorded extensive revelations of all sorts.
For the most part, we understand revelation to be intelligence communicated directly to our minds and hearts. Frequently, this is in the form of a "still, small voice" giving us information that we would have no previous access to.
The LDS Prophet claims revelation. He has not, as far as I know, described it in any detail. The other people I wrote of earlier did describe many of their revelations in detail, including several people who claimed to have seen God the Father, Jesus Christ, Adam, Eve, John the Baptist, Peter, James, John, Elijah, and other personages while accompanying Joseph Smith on various errands.
I notice a trend that is not unique to the Mormons but it does exist with most any religion and that is the divine interaction past leaders, prophest had that modern leaders prophets do not have. Bible readings will show open talk with God and many manifestations. Modern prophets / leaders of religions claim leadership but don't show anything as the past of their organizations claim.
