If we could shrink the earths population to a village of precisely 100 people with all existing human ratios remaining, the world or village would look something like this: There would be 57 asians, 21 europeans, 14 from the western hemisphere, both north and south, 8 africans, 52 females, 48 males, 70 non white, 30 would be white, 70 would be non christian, 30 would be christian, 89 would be heterosexual, 11 would be homosexual, 6 people would have 59% of the worlds wealth, 6 would be from the USA, 80 would live in substandard housing, 70 would not be able to read, 50 would suffer from malnutrition, 1 would be near death, 1 would be near birth , 1 would have a collage education , 1 would own a computer. When one considers our world from such a compressed state, the need for acceptance and understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent and the need to love one another.

I've seen this around the net for awhile, and it's really interesting. Here's a link to a .pdf on "population connection":
Village of 100Their numbers are a little different, but basically it comes out to the same message.

The scariest part of the Village of 100 fact sheet that Farseer gave a link two is that the vast majority of people are living in poverty. Nearly seventy out of 100 lived on less than two dollars a day! Thats entirely unacceptable as a human civilization. The amount of educated people was staggeringly low, and the amount of people that use computers and the internet was surprisingly low. I'm sure these stats haven't changed much in three years. These stats are based on 2001 statistics.
