A somewhat impressive game against Costa Rica, and without their captain and star player Ballack. Klose had a great game and Podolski will get better as the tournament advances. Maybe Germany is not as bad as we thought after all.
According to this review Ballack could have played, but perhaps did not want to take any chances / give the other goal keeper a shot:

It was a definite goal, and was certainly called wrong when the decision was made. Whether this had anything to do with the low morale of the team's continuing downward spiral or not I don't know, but what I do know is that England had quite a few chances where they could have taken control of the ball and didn't.
In my opinion, Germany didn't get a 'lucky break', they were clearly the better team on the day!
