Well, I really only follow the Pat's and I think it is too early to really say much of anything with authority. In a few weeks time, I will maybe have a better feel for how the other teams stack up against my team, but I definately only follow the other teams in relation to how they compare to the Pats in one area or another.
I believe the Patriots have now won 16 in a row. Two more would be record if I am not mistaken. They did pretty poorly in the preseason, but I don't believe the preseason is a good indicator of how the actual season will go. This seems to be true in baseball as well. So, only time will tell...
Jake Plummer of the Denver Broncos was a close friend of Pat Tillman; the ex football player who joined the forces in Iraq leaving behind the game he loved and a lucrative contract extension. Pat was later killed in action while serving for his country. This last weekend, Jake Plummer knowingly broke one of the NFL rules and placed a #40 sticker on his helmet in honor of his fallen teammate.
Plummer knew he was going to be fined, and wasnt worried about the fine. Instead he asked the NFL to take his fine money and give it to the Pat Tillman fund that had been set up in Arizona, his home state. The NFL did not fine Plummer, and instead has counter offered to allow Plummer to make TV commercials in honor of Tillman, if he were to remove the sticker from his helmet. The whole event is a good reminder of the human element of the game and that when it is all said and done, the game is just that; a game.
My favorite team is the Raiders. They hit harder on defense ever since I have watched them play. Star running and quarterbacks have flown through their team through the years more than others also. You always want that late hit in when playing football so it is easier to relate to their team.
Well, my Cardinals are as consistent as ever. With their second loss of the season to the worst team in the NFL, the Cardinals now have clinched their 15th losing season out of 17 years in Arizona. On the bright side, with a team that loses so much, it's not a temptation to skip church to stay home and watch the game.
I cannot believe the Patriots lost to the Dolphins last night! The Dolphins had only one two other games all season. The Patriots had only lost one game all season. Somebody really messed up here. I hope it isn't a matter of the offensive coordinator being distracted because of his new job at Notre Dame. Although, it really sounds like the problem was Tom Brady. He is usually my hero, but apparently he really stunk last night!
I didnt watch the game last night because I figured it was going to be a blow out in favor of the Patriots. Boy was I wrong! That loss really hurts the Patriots chance for home field advantage through the AFC playoffs as the Steelers are cruising at 13-1 now. Plus, they beat the Patriots head to head this year. What is even more hilarious is that the Arizona Cardinals have a shot of winning the NFC West with a 7-9 record at the end of the year, and they lost twice to my lowly San Fran 49ers! It will be the first time ever that a team wins a division with a losing record. Boy does the NFC suck this year!
I haven't follwed the NFL very close in several years but it does seem like a strange year when the Cardinals have a chance at the Playoffs. They were 4-9 before last weeks win. If they win their last 2 games and both Seattle and St. Louis lose their last two they will win their division. Stranger things have happened.
