Some breaking news from the Eagles camp. Terrell Owens is out for the rest of the NFC playoffs with a high ankle sprain suffered from Sunday's game against the Cowboys. This is very bad news for Eagles' fans who must feel that they are cursed after having reached the NFC Championship game the last 3 years and losing each time. This year with the addition of TO they had aspirations of a trip to the SuperBowl and now these hopes seem dashed. There is an outside chance he will be ready for the SuperBowl game which will be in 7 weeks, if the Eagles can make it there.

Some sad news from the NFL. On Dec 26th, NFL great Reggie White died from an apparent respiratory diseases, combined with some other health problems. He had just turned 43 a week before. Reggie White was best known as the Minister of Defense as he was an ordained minister along with being one of the greatest defensive players the league has ever seen. He held the sack record of 198 sacks for some time till it was recently surpassed by Bruce Smith. Reggie White played for the Eagles, Packers and Panthers during his 15 year career in the NFL, and won a SuperBowl with the Packers in 1998. He is survived by his wife and two children.

This year, my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers shall finally win a Super Bowl. There is no challenger from the NFC. We Crushed the Eagles 24-3 when the had Terell Owens. We crushed the Pats, who will not even make it to the AFC Championship game (although I hope they do, so we can crush them again). There is no more over rated player than Tom Brady. He has the same skill of Tommy Maddox, which is backup quality. He is good because he has 13 seconds to throw the ball to a talented recieving corps and tight end. He plays a real team in the Steelers, and plays terribly. Blame it on injuries all you like, but it's not like the Steelers were injury free. Their best player, Casey Hampton, was out. SO was Tommy Maddox, Chad Scott, and more that I can't even remember (I think a linebacker, offensive lineman, and another defensive lineman). Dillon not playing wouldn't of had an effect, for they ran less than 10 times, and almost finished for -1 yards. Instead they had a big 3. Jerome Bettis ran up the middle for 9 plays in a row, and on the 10 earned a 33 yard gain. Unfortunately, the Patriots will lose to the Colts this weekend, and we will not recieve the opportunity to prove once again who the best football team in the NFL is. And who the best coach is, despite that stupid people voted Marty Schottenheimer the NFL coach of the year. Yes, he did a great accomplishment by turning a team from 4-12 to 12-4 (I think that's what their record was, but it was around there if I am incorrect). And they lost in the playoffs. How about a 6-10 who became 5-1 for the first time in AFC history and the 5th in NFL history, with a rookie quarterback, a 35 year old running back, and their best player (Casey Hampton) out for the season. The Chargers were destined to do well, anyways, with the best running back in the league and a pretty solid defense. Antonio gates and Drew Brees were Schottenheimer's only accomplishments. Well, I talk to you next time as Super Bowl Champions, as Roethlisberger shatters yet another record, as the only QB to win the Super Bowl.

Straker, I admire your confidence in the Steelers. For your sake I hope you are right, since they haven't played one game yet in the playoffs. As for Tom Brady, I must disagree. I don't think he is overrated, if anything, he is underrated. While Peyton Manning is considered to be the best QB in football right now, he yet has to accomplish 2 things that Brady has already done; get to a SuperBowl, and win a SuperBowl. Plus, he has won the SuperBowl MVP twice.
I did enjoy seeing the Steelers do well this year, and I would love to see them in the SuperBowl as well. I also agree that the AFC championship game will be the toughest for them, probably tougher than the SuperBowl if they reach there. That is because they will either play New England or Indianapolis; neither of which will be an easy task.

Well, it is definately possible that New England will lose to the Colts this weekend, but I am not sure how you can be so positive it will happen. The Colts have lost to the Pats the last six times these two teams played.

Just keep this in mind, Bill Belichick very rarely loses to the same team twice in a row.

There is really no substance to this statement, in my opinion. In fact he is one of the most successful quarterbacks there has ever been in the only area that really matters...winning.

I don't intend to talk trash. I think the Patriots have as good a chance as any other team in the AFC to make it to the Superbowl this year. Of course, any team can lose on any given day no matter how good, so I am not going to predict they will win. However, if they do and the Steelers don't you can be sure I will come back and remind you of this fact, because you have made some very bold statements. biggrin.gif

I know that these statements have been rash and bold, but after last seasons 6-10 record, I can not hold it in. And I really want revenge for 2001. I say that Tom Brady is overrated because I don't believe that he is the reason the Patriots win. His offensive line is superb, and give him some of the best throwing times in the league. He has an excellent running back in Corey Dillon, and good recieving corps and tight end. He has a great defense that gets him the ball alot, and an outstanding coach and kicker. He is surrounded by a dysnasty football team. But, when defenders finally do break through their offensive line, have you even seen Brady scramble like McNabb or Roethlisberger and turn nothing into a play? I have not. This is why I say he is overrated. Sure, he can pass, but what QB can't whenever they have all the time in the world? A real quarterback is defined by their ability to turn nothing into something, and I have not been impressed by Brady's ability at this.
Besides, the reason I don't believe the Pariots are going to win is because of their secondary injuries. At the beginning of this week, I heard that both safeties are hurt, as well as both starting cornerbacks. If this is true, how can they stand up to the best passing attack in the league with Manning at QB, and the best reciving trio of Harrison, Wayne, and Stokley? And if they focus too much on the pass, then in comes Edge, who is a fantastic runner. Right now, I am worried about tomorrow's game against the Jets, although with home-field advantage and Plax back, they won't be able to cheat on defense and predict the run as much. We should have this one.

P.S. just so you know, the Patriots are actually my second football team. I just love to rag on them when the opportunity arrives, because that opportunity is rare. Man, I didn't shut up about the Miami game untill the playoffs...I have great fun in teasing my friends in New England about the Steeler's vs. Patriots game all season, for I was put into the same experience for the past two years. Revenge is required...Oh yeah, and about the confidence...what real fan is not ABSOLUTELY sure his (or her) team will win the game? You have to always say it like you know it. No matter whether your team is 15-1 or 1-15--love your team.

Well Straker, your Steelers seemed to have overlooked the Jets and escaped with a win today in Heinz field. If it were not for the 2 missed field goals by the Jets kicker, the dream season for Roethlisberger would have been over. This game definitely gives whomever the next opponent is the feeling that the Steelers are beatable. It might come down to a matchup between your Steelers and Tenaheff's Patriots wink.gif

All last season the Patriots managed to win with many starters out injured. No one thought they could win each week because of the injuries, yet they did.

I am nervous about tomorrows game because Indy is good, but so are the Patriots.

As far as Tom Brady, I have seen him make plays when under pressure. In fact, he is known for managing to get the throw off just before he is brought down. He sees them coming, but doesn't panic. I will take Tom Brady as a quarterback any day.

I am a fan, but having been a Red Sox fan for so long, I know better than to get too sure of myself or my team. biggrin.gif
