After more than a month off, the NFL and its locked-out players have starting talking again about how to resolve their differences and ensure there is pro football played this fall. The only sign of progress or productivity, though, was the nine hours or so both sides spent in the federal courthouse on Thursday.

NFL denies law firm new players in case (AP)

The NFL has rejected a law firm's request for a conflict-of-interest waiver to represent a group of players seeking to join the antitrust fight against the league. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Thursday the league notified the firm of the denial. The firm later was identified as Barnes & Thornburg of Indianapolis.

Lockout Restored
A federal appeals court judge granted the NFL's request to restore a lockout amid a labor dispute with players, a court clerk says.
The temporary stay of an April 25 lower court order allows NFL owners to again suspend football operations as they seek to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement with the players.
If the players are locked out when the season starts in September, it would be the first NFL work stoppage since 1987, with months of labor and legal maneuvering looming for fans already wondering how a $9 billion industry lacks enough money to satisfy everyone. Ref. CNN
