Mormon Confession - Page 3

Liahona, thanks for your reply. Those details are very important. It seems that your revelation is in harmony with scripture,( at least somewhat) as it is necessary for the man and the woman and his other wife to receive the same revelation. If I could remember the scripture source I'd quote it, but I can't (maybe I'll look It up In a little while). It could be years down the road before you meet him.The Lord could give us this law back by then, I know that after He returns it will definitely be back. Anyways you are doing the right thing in trying to stay in tune to the spirit. Its not my place to judge, but I think you'll be fine.

Confession Mormon

Name: Andrew

Comments: Wait, Am I missing something here?

The prophet cannot lead us astray. If we are to believe in the restored Gospel Of Jesus Christ than we are to believe in the prophets of this Gospel and heed their counsel.

Clearly, we are not going to personally receive revelations to live plural marriage without our Quorum of the 12 Apostles authorizing this practice.

Our Bishops are blessed and endowed with the gift of discernment and I think your Bishop is called of God and also called to assist you in living the Gospel. I think any decisions that you make should be made in harmony with the counsel of your Bishop and or Stake President. They, together, can help you make sense of your revelation and determine a safe, correct course of action.

Glad to hear you're still doing good Liahona. I hope and pray you will have the Spirit of the LORD with you during this time now, and also that you will be lead to the fountain of truth and to a way to live the laws of God.

Hey Mark, welcome to the Forum! smile.gif
With the scripture you're talking about, could you be referring to the law of Sarah? That everybody involved in the marriage needs the same revelation, besides the father of the bride where the same has the Melchizedek priesthood and the president of the priesthood has been taught extensively (see "The Seer" by Orson Pratt and in the Journal of Discourses, various speakers) but is not part of the standard works. What is in the scriptures is the law of Sarah which has been elaborated upon by the prophets. This can be found in D&C 132:61,64. It basically means for the marriage to be valid a man needs the consent of the first wife, but the first wife is bound by the gospel to accept the law of celestial marriage if properly taught to her. V.65 governs cases in which a woman is unwilling to follow that.

international QUOTE (JoePublic @ 23-Oct 09, 10:32 AM)
The prophet cannot lead us astray.

Hello Andrew. I don't believe in the infallibility of Prophets, often times we follow traditions that are not in harmony with the scriptures. The whole "The prophet cannot lead us astray"concept is one of those common phrases we hear in church from generation to generation but that has no scriptural basis. Hence, we're asked to ponder and pray upon the things we hear from our leaders since they're men just like we are.

Aren't we also endowed with the spirit of discernment? I don't understand. If the revelation was given to me, for the purpose to edify my personal life and is coming from the LORD why should I take a decision that goes in agreement with what my Bishop or Stake President think? (men)

Mark and OldSouth, thank you for your kind words and prayers.

Confession Mormon

I will like to remind everyone about two things:

First the subject of the Thread is:

international QUOTE (Gossip)
Do you have something to confess as a Latter-Day Saint that you will like to get off your chest?

Thus far I have seen one person share a confession and the others merely share why they were for or against it. I encourage that if you will participate in the Thread that you answer the original question posed about yourself.

Second,

The idea behind the Thread was not to go into a full blown Discussion based on what someone 'confesses' especially since everyone should be well aware that Discussion about Plural Marriage or Infallibility of Prophets are Discussions only for the Mature Board.
