I'm working on a news feature: Instant Messages. There will be a private chat window with a buddies list that you can use just as you would with Yahoo, AOL, MSN, or one of those. I just have to work out the details of how it will be used, who can use it, and so forth.

Thanks much. For a little history, I first installed this as an integration with the Forum, but then I was concerned with:

1. Security and having something like an I'm associated with the DB
2. I wanted more control who uses it which as it is did not give me that
3. I installed it as a standalone but the integration here will be for certain users.

For now just Email me which password you will like to use. I recommend something easy for now, you can change it later. Then I will send you an Email with the link (later today).

As you use it please give me feedback here (this Thread) so I can know what is confusing, what might need explaining and so forth

Alright I can do that e-mail will be there shortly. I think this could be a good thing.

I'm thinking where to position this. Maybe a box to the right of the navigation bar saying 'x' person is online do you want to chat with them? Or something that floats at the bottom similar to what Myspace and Facebook does. I also thinking an on and off switch will probably be wanted for those who do not want to see it.

I think the floater at the bottom of the page would be nice. Plus having it be a choice whether to chat with them or not. You can see who is online but you choose whether you wish to talk or not.

I do like the bottom bar idea, not sure how that will go with the various Skins. I am thinking of something that says "'X' Member is online, click here to chat with them" or something similar.

For now I'm making a beta Instant Message page that will allow users to see if they qualify, and what they have to do in order to use the Instant Messenger.
